Tiger fans are high on Strong’s chances because he comes to LSU as the top-ranked JUCO middle linebacker in last year’s class. Because while we know what we have in Damone Clark and Micah Baskerville, Tigers fans are unsure of what to make of returning players like Josh White and Antoine Sampah, not to mention Navonteque Strong and LSU’s other talented newcomer, Greg Penn III. It’s also the position with the most untapped potential. The linebacker position is easily the most questionable unit on the 2021 team.

LB, Mississippi Gulf Coast, 6’2″, 220 lbs Our good friend Mike Detillier saw Jones log several of those stats last year and says he is going to be a “difference-maker” off the edge as a pass rusher. James High, Jones recorded 69 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, seven sacks and an interception. That said, we wouldn’t rule out Jones’ chance of seeing the field in 2021, given his outstanding combination of size and athleticism. The Tigers return players who had substantial success at that spot. So it’s not just the fact LSU returns a lot of bodies at the position. They made up three of the top five Tigers who led in that category. Gaye, Anthony and Ojulari totaled 20 tackles for loss last season. Ali Gaye, Soni Fonua, Jarell Cherry, Andre Anthony and BJ Ojulari all played in at least two games a season ago. Either way, it’s going to be difficult for Jones to make a mark at defensive end as a newcomer with what LSU has returning.īefore we break down Jones’ game, here’s a refresher on what LSU has returning. James High, which certainly would be understandable. Or perhaps Tiger fans are simply that high on Saivion Jones after the career he had at St. Perhaps Jones garnering the fourth-most votes has a little “recency bias” to it, as he’s one of LSU’s newest signees.
